E.S.L. is a chamber pop quartet based out of both Salt Spring Island and Vancouver. Featuring Marta McKeever (Fan Death, Girl Nobody) on vocals and piano, Diona Davies (Geoff Berner, Carolyn Mark, Po’ Girl) on violin and harmonies, Tess Kitchen (Wintermitts) on trumpet and harmonies, and Joy Mullen (Cris Derksen, Fortresses) on drums, this band has been together since 2005. Their debut album Eye Contact was a huge success, garnering performances at folk festivals throughout Canada.
E.S.L.’s Heart Contact EP is their first release in eight years and features a guest performance by Dan Mangan. Veering wildly between Polish cabaret and chamber pop to playful hip hop jams, E.S.L. spins songs that will catch your ear and entangle you in their spell. Ethereal vocal harmonies might evoke a late-night bar, with booty-shaking beats, bold horns, lush string lines, and no-holds-barred lyrics that convey a heartfelt reflection on life. E.S.L. performs songs in five languages: Polish, French, Spanish, German, and English.

FAN DEATH
Conceived by Dandilion Wind Opaine and Marta Jaciubek-McKeever in 2007, Fan Death is a dance project driven by strings, synth and wild storytelling. With the help of producer Samuel Findlay, Dandilion penned “A Coin For The Well” and “Womb Of Dreams” for which Marta provided harmonies as well as the track “Side by Side”. From 2008 to 2011, Marta and Dandi’s palpable chemistry was captured in photographs, music videos, and most famously in the strange and sexually charged live performances that captivated audiences all over the world. Together they toured Mexico, Russia, U.K., Spain, France, Germany and shared the stage with Florence And The Machine, Vampire Weekend and Franz Ferdinand. In 2011, Marta and Dandi announced an end to Fan Death and a promise to reunite on other projects through life.
GIRL NOBODY
Girl Nobody was formed in 1999 by Marta Jaciubek, Joey Turco, Jimmy Northey, Jeremiah Schneider and Brett Drury. They released two critically acclaimed albums: “The Future Isn’t What It Used To Be” (Independent, 2004) and “Balaclava Casino Heist” (Jericho Beach, 2007), both produced by Futcher (Be Good Tanyas). Their stunning live shows and their ability to push creative boundaries was celebrated by the press and fans in Canada and the UK, where they toured extensively. In 2004, all tracks from “The Future Isn’t What It Used To Be” were remixed by renowned DJs and released by UK label Release Records. One of the tracks was highlighted on Paul Oakenfold’s “Creamfields” (2004). The band called it quits in 2007 to focus on their solo endeavours.
